What is a chronic illness?
Chronic illnesses last for long periods of time without disappearing, and generally cannot be prevented by vaccines or cured by medication. Around 88 percent of Americans over 65 years of age have at least one chronic health condition, with the most common being arthritis, cardiovascular disease, stroke, cancers, and diabetes.
Which chronic illnesses do you provide treatment for?
People come to me first when they are not feeling well, so I help diagnose and treat all kinds of chronic conditions including heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, asthma, and depression. If I don’t have the resources to provide care here in the office, I have a wide network of quality local specialists to refer patients to.
What steps can patients take to prevent chronic illness?
Lifestyle choices often contribute to chronic diseases, including tobacco use, lack of physical activity, and poor eating habits. I don’t force a certain type of lifestyle on any of my patients, but I am a good coach and I really try to educate people about how to make good choices to keep themselves healthy. I’m an advocate of overall health in every aspect of life, and I strive to be a primary resource for all of my patients.
