A main focus of Dr. Barbee’s primary care is to help patients achieve overall, long-lasting health. As their primary care provider, she maintains a full picture of the overall health of each and every patient, allowing her to make recommendations to improve health before treatment is necessary, and refer to specialists when necessary.
What preventive care treatments do you offer?
I encourage all my patients to have annual exams as part of good preventive care—a yearly checkup visit. We discuss overall health, update immunizations, and refer for colonoscopies and other screenings if needed. This is also a great time for me to hear about personal or career updates, lifestyle changes, or diet and exercise habits. Any minor concerns that might not constitute a visit on their own—though I encourage patients to contact me with any concern, big or small—can also be addressed.
I also offer essential women’s health care needs such as Pap tests and breast exams.
Why is preventive care important?
It’s important for me to see my patients regularly for preventive care appointments so that I know what is going on in their lives and what is “normal” for them. I discuss changes with them and together we can fix any problems before they get serious.
