ACUTE CARE IN CHANDLER

While Barbee Primary Care focuses on long-term and preventive care of patients, immediate attention for urgent medical conditions is also available. Having previously worked in urgent care, Dr. Barbee is trained to handle many non-life-threatening conditions quickly and efficiently.

What does acute care mean?

Acute care is when patients receive active but short-term treatment for an episode of illness or urgent medical condition. Whether you’ve come down with an infection or you’re suffering from minor injuries due to an accident, I’m happy to accommodate patients on very short notice and tend to their acute care needs when necessary.

When should patients see their primary care doctor for acute care vs. going to the emergency room?

Family doctors treat many non-life-threatening acute conditions, like upper respiratory infections, pneumonia, abdominal pain, urinary tract infections, poison ivy rashes, minor lacerations, and injuries. In some cases, such as when the doctor's office is closed or when the condition is life-threatening, patients should go to an urgent health care clinic or emergency room.
